Great Faith

January 22

Daily Bible Reading: Matthew 15:21 – 39

Verse of the Day: Matthew 15:28 – “Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it done unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was healed from that hour.”

Jesus continues to heal multitudes of people in our passages today. Of all the ones that could have been discussed, Matthew tells of a Gentile (non-Jewish) woman from Canaan and her daughter. After some back and forth discussion with Jesus, He heals her daughter.

Some think Jesus cruel for not just healing the girl, but rather debated with the mother. But, understand that the miracles that Jesus performed where also teaching moments. He sought to show that this Gentile woman had great faith in who He was. He was pointing to the fact that all of us need to have faith. Our salvation is based upon Grace that comes through Faith. How great is your faith today?

Prayer: Jesus, I come to You in faith today. Help the areas of unbelief that struggle in my being. Allow me to only believe. Each day I seek to trust You fully. Grant my request. Amen.
