The Virgin Birth

January 2

Daily Bible Reading: Matthew 2

Verse of the Day: Matthew 2:6 – “And thou Bethlehem, land of Judah, Art in no wise least among the princes of Judah: For out of thee shall come forth a governor, Who shall be shepherd of my people Israel.”

Matthew 1 and 2 cover the birth of Jesus and the events that happen over the next couple of years. Of the four Gospel accounts (or as they can be understood as redemptive biographies), only Matthew and Luke cover the Virgin Birth of Jesus. This is such a vital part of understanding who Jesus is.

The Old Testament says to believe something only upon the word of 2 or 3 witnesses. We see this attested to by Matthew, Mark, and later by Paul in Galatians. The purpose of each writer of the Gospels also plays into this – Matthew pictures Jesus as a King, Mark as a servant, Luke as a man, and John as God. Matthew and Luke tell us important information for a King and a man.

Prayer: Jesus, as I look at your life, may it move me to follow and surrender wholly to You each day. I fully surrender all. Amen.
