A Sad End

April 20

Daily Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 30 – 31

Verse of the Day: 1 Samuel 31:6 – “So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armorbearer, and all his men, that same day together.”

And as we finish reading the book of First Samuel, we see the sad way that the life of the first king of Israel ended. In our last set of readings, Saul after consulting the Medium was totally rejected by God. His end was predicted.

In the battle against the Philistines, Saul was hit by the archers and mortally wounded. In fear that they would torture him, he commits suicide to hasten his death. In the battle, Jonathan and all of Saul’s sons were killed. The nation fled before the Philistines in fear.

Saul, the first king of Israel is not remembered for any great things – he is remembered in shame and defeat. Sin – continued – will always bring one shame and defeat.

Prayer: Great Savior, I come to You today seeking to renounce my sins and rest in Your power and forgiveness. Amen.
