Risk or Trust?

Daily Bible Reading: Jeremiah 40 - 42

Verse of the Day: Jeremiah 42:11 – “Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid; be not afraid of him, saith Jehovah: for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.”

In this life, if we walk we risk tripping, if we run we risk falling. If we drive we risk a collision. If we sail we risk sinking. If we fly we risk crashing. Basically, we need to understand that to live is to risk. No matter what we do, we face risk, and the outcome can be negative or positive.

So, basically we can go through this life in fear or trust. The important part is where our trust is placed. If we place our trust in the One true God, we really have nothing to fear. God will take care of us. Do you trust Him, or are you trusting in something else? Only God is a sure thing. Place your trust in Him.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, today with all that I have to do I place my trust in You. Hold me in Your Hand and see me through. Amen.

Daily Bible Reading: Jeremiah 38 - 39

Verse of the Day: Jeremiah 39:1 – “And it came to pass when Jerusalem was taken, (in the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, came Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon and all his army against Jerusalem, and besieged it;”

In today’s reading, we learn about the way that Jerusalem was attacked. It was just as Jeremiah had warned. They had disobeyed, ignored, and finally had to face the consequences.

It is not a popular thought today that God is not only a loving God, but in His Righteousness, He is also a Judge. He will forgive, but He will also allow the consequences from our actions to follow us. We can be restored to Him, but this does not mean that the outcome will be exactly like we think it should be.

Prayer: Righteous Judge of all, open my eyes to where I am in disobedience to You, and may I turn back, seek You, and obey. Amen.

God can't be stopped

Daily Bible Reading: Jeremiah 36 - 37

Verse of the Day: Jeremiah 33:3 – “Thus saith Jehovah, Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us; for they shall not depart. For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yea would they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.”

What positive thought can you bring out of this passage? As I pondered on that thought while preparing this devotion, God showed me that even as negative as it sounds, the underlying premise is something we can grab hold of. 

What is it? I saw that even when the things around us might look one way, the Hand of God, the Plan of God, the Man of God will not be stopped from doing what God ahs decreed.

Prayer: Father, may I grab hold of this truth – Your plans are set, Your way is perfect, I can trust You to accomplish what You have said. 

Call Him

November 2

Daily Bible Reading: Jeremiah 33 - 35

Verse of the Day: Jeremiah 33:3 – “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and will show thee great things, and difficult, which thou knowest not.”

In this verse, we see an invitation from God. He begins this verse with the word “call.” He invites you and me to cry out to Him. When can we use this? Well, how about when we are not sure what to do? Or, when we are faced with a major decision? How about when something happens and we are left confused?

God says to call on Him and – He will answer. And not only will He answer, He will uncover the answer to the questions that are plaguing us.

I, for one, have needed to call on God often. And, true to His word, He is always there.

Prayer: God, as I go through today I am uplifted by the reminder that You are always there, listening and answering my cries. I praise You, I worship You. I thank You. Amen.

Nothing, Nothing, Absolutely Nothing

Daily Bible Reading: Jeremiah 31 - 32

Verse of the Day: Jeremiah 32:17 – “Ah Lord Jehovah! behold, thou hast made the heavens and the earth by thy great power and by thine outstretched arm; there is nothing too hard for thee,”

Have you ever stopped to think that what we call impossibilities are to God as nothing. We say it is too hard, God says nothing is too hard. We say the situation is impossible, but God says it is possible.

In the verse we read above, God says nothing is too hard for Him. I don’t know your situation, but the one thing I do know is this – all we need is God and His promises. He is God. Bottom line – nothing is too hard for Him.

Prayer: Almighty and Victorious God, when I feel that life is too hard, my situation helpless, my strength is failing – may I turn my eyes to You. You have said, You have promised, that nothing is too hard for You. Nothing. I am holding to that promise and trusting You through all that I am going through. Amen.
