Please Pray

Greetings:

Please pray for the Kotchenreuther family. Little Jessie is still undergoing tests to determine why she is running a fever.

Pray that the doctors and nurses will soon discover and be able to treat what it is that is affecting her.

Refreshment

Greetings:

My wife and I are getting ready to draw aside for some much needed rest and renewing. Jesus often drew aside to pray and seek God. He stated that we must take time to refresh our bodies and minds.

God designed man to rest each day, and to take one day a week to rest, He even designed for Israel to give the land a rest every seven years.

I often wonder, why do we tax ourselves and not follow the Lord's design. My wife and I look forward to going to the mountains in the summer, and in Oct/Nov to the shore for a short retreat each year.

Well, I must go and prepare our house and yard, my clothes and other items (i.e. books) for the time we will be away. May God bless our time of refreshing.

Always There

Greetings:

There are events in your life that cause you to stop and ponder their meaning. At this time, I am going through some things that leave me searching for some answers.

God's Word promises that God is with us all the time. It states that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. God never lies. Therefore, I constantly hold on to the truth that I am not alone, and I have someone wiser to turn to. I hear the sound of sandaled feet, and the rustle of His robe as He picks me up and carries me.

I am so thankful that I have a Friend that gives perfect counsel. The problem is that I'm not always listening.

So - pray for me as I sort out the issues of this time, and that I will open my mind and heart to the One who gives perfect counsel and peace.

Summer Reading

Greetings:

Schools often assign Summer Reading for the students to complete before returning the following year. Many enjoy this - others fight against being made to read.

I for one love to read. I average about 50+ books a year. These range from textbooks to fantasy. And of course I read the Bible on a daily basis. Reading helps us to develop. We grow as we read. We keep our minds alert. We develop new interests. We benefit in a multitude of ways.

I just finished a book on teaching strategies, and am now reading some of Ted Dekker's fiction. I will be reading a book on Philippians after this. Variety helps keep up the interest in reading.

I want to challenge you to spend time reading. Seek out good books, fun books, and a variety of books and ---- READ.

Last Devotional for the School Year

Greetings:

2 Timothy is Paul's last recorded letter. It was written shortly before his death, and it was sent to his beloved son in the ministry - Timothy. Paul wrote the letters to Timothy to encourage and lift his spirits.

The devotions that I have written and sent each morning have been a labor of love from me to you. As I sit and put these together, I am thinking of all of you - and often one in particular that day who might need a lift. As I have often said - I pray for you - and these devotions have come from my heart lifted to God for you.

Having been in the classroom, I am aware of the "daily grind" that sometimes can get us down. I am aware of the feeling of "Am I really making a difference?" And, God challenged me to lift you up this year each morning not only in prayer, but with a word that He had placed upon my heart for you. For some, a particular days devotion hit home, for others they may have seemed to be the ramblings of an old man. One thing I am confident about you - just as Paul admitted to the church at Philippi - I am sure of this, that He who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. (Phil. 1:6, HCSB)

As Paul closed his last letter to Timothy, I close this last devotion with these words to you - The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you!

Copycats

Greetings:

God gives us a challenge through the Apostle Paul as to how we should be as teachers.

Be imitators of me, as I also am of Christ. 1 Cor. 11:1 (HCSB)

As you think back over your time with your students this year - would you want them to imitate you? If every one of them became just like you - how would the world be? (And be honest).

As you reflect this summer, thinking about your class next year - what will you change to make this a true statement for you.

Win and Lose

Greetings:

In the book The Daily Disciplines of Leadership, Douglas Reeves speaks about perseverance. He reminds us that we do not always get a "Thank-you" right away, and sometimes as teachers they never come back and say thanks (I thought about the 10 lepers in the Gospel account). But, he writes a section that I think sums up this year and your work at MCS.

"We won some and we lost some, but our work made a profound difference in the lives of children. They may not thank us now; in fact, they probably won't. But we know that our work matters, and in time they will know it well. Even some of my colleagues didn't appreciate my work, but popularity is not the standard here; effectiveness and impact on the lives of kids are all that matters. So I didn't win the Demosthenes oratorical competition. I'm not trying to be Demosthenes. I'm not even trying to be Horace Mann. I'm just trying to be the best teacher and leader I can be."
