THE REDEEMED AND THE LAW

Matthew 5:19 (CSB) –  “Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commands and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever does and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”

How does the Old Testament Law relate to Believers of today? Here in this passage, Jesus is establishing His basis for His Kingdom, and He has just let us know that being a part of His Kingdom means that we understand the God’s Law is still in effect. He now brings the application of this truth to those who call themselves Believers. He gives us a continuum of how this works.

First, He starts at the least end of the scale. Notice, if one breaks even a minor commandment and then teaches others that they can do the same doesn’t lose their salvation or citizenship in Jesus’ Kingdom, they are called the least. Interesting to note that those who are liberal in their approach to the Bible can be in the Kingdom. They will be considered as the least – just getting in.

However, those who obey the message of the Law and teaches others the importance of living a godly life will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven. Those who teach the Bible as truth will be considered “Megas” in the Kingdom.

We need to read our Bible. All of it. From Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21. It’s easy to say, I believe the Bible from cover to cover, from Genesis to the Concordance…and I even believe the maps! But it doesn’t matter that you believe it if you don’t read it!
Let me share a story I read about a preacher’s son who was heading off to a liberal college. The Pastor was afraid his son’s faith would be shaken by the studies at this college. He told his son that they’re gonna question the Bible, and tell you it’s all fairy tales…. Don’t let ‘em take Jonah out of your Bible [he figured they’d attack that account].

The son was gone for two years and came home.  Dad asked him, they didn’t ruin you did they?

The Son answered, I hope not, dad.

They didn’t take Jonah out of the Bible, did they?

Aw, dad, the son answered, Jonah’s not even in your Bible

Dad quickly grabbed his Bible to show him… and it wasn’t there.

The son had torn it out of his Bible two years before, and his Dad never even noticed.

The son asked his father, what’s the difference between a liberal professor denying it’s true and a Christian failing to read it?

I want to challenge you as I do so many, there are two things to do each and every day – You’re your Bible and Pray.

Will you commit to God today, that you will do those two things each and every day?
