1 John 2:17 (NASB) - "The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever."
We are continuing in the study of what Abiding in Christ means, we have come to the understanding that abiding in Christ means that a person walks and is in fellowship with Him. We already noted the words of the prophet Amos - "Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?" If we are in fellowship with God, we are walking with Christ in an intimate and continual way. To abide in Christ, a person does the will of God.
The Nike slogan has inspired many an athlete - "Just do it." It has been used in business slogans, in encouraging emails, to students, to anyone who needs that gentle (sometimes not so gentle) nudge to accomplish something. It is a great reminder when we tend to procrastinate. Just do it. Don't hesitate, don't hold back, don't question.
The Scripture reminds us, that when it comes to abiding in Christ - we need to just do it. And we do this by obeying Him. we first accept Christ, then we obey Him. The verse above says - "but the one who does the will of God lives forever." James told us to "Don’t fool
yourself into thinking that you are a listener when you are anything
but, letting the Word go in one ear and out the other. Act on
what you hear! Those who hear and don’t act are like those who glance in
the mirror, walk away, and two minutes later have no idea who they are,
what they look like." (James 1:22-24 MSG).
Ponder today, what has God been leading you to do, and you are putting it off? What is He showing you in His Word? What has He been teaching and challenging you? Today is the day to do it. Don't wait, don't rationalize, don't try to figure it all out - just do it.
