CLEOPAS' DIARY - DAY 6

[This series of Devotions are in the format of Historical Fiction. The main facts are accurate, but the Diary is fictional.]

Text: John 19:16-18 (CSB) – Then he handed him over to be crucified. Then they took Jesus away.  Carrying the cross by himself, he went out to what is called Place of the Skull, which in Aramaic is called Golgotha. There they crucified him and two others with him, one on either side, with Jesus in the middle.

Dear Diary: NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! It can’t be. It just can’t be. Today is the worst day ever. The one we were sure was to be the Messiah that was promised ----- THEY KILLED HIM!

I have not slept since yesterday morning. The events were so shocking and surprising that I cannot find any peace. Exhaustion is seriously taking its toll.

Those who were around shared how that the Rabbi was taken to the Court of Pilate after a night-long travesty of misjustice. He was before Annas, Caiaphas, the Sanhedrin – all before daybreak – totally against our laws. Then he went to Pilate who sent him to Herod who sent him back to Pilate. And finally succumbing to both the mob and political pressure he had him beaten severely – enough to have possibly killed him – and then sent him to be executed in Roman style on a Cross at the hill of Calvary.

Rumor has it that Peter, his strongest supporter, even denied knowing him three times. He disappeared and I haven’t found him to verify this. It looks like maybe he did.

All of our hopes, dreams, plans, trust, faith, and reliance upon this Rabbi has been dashed in less than 24 hours. What hope do we have left? What chance do we now have in our deliverance? We are all in hiding. Word has been spread to meet back at the Upper Room of Mark’s house where we can seek protection and shelter.

Oh, God, why have you forsaken us! What hope do we now have of a future delivered from this bondage? THEY KILLED HIM!
