shûb

November 16

Daily Bible Reading: Ezekiel 13 - 15

Verse of the Day: Ezekiel 8:12 – “Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Return ye, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations.”

The phrase “return ye” in today's verse is the Hebrew word shûb and is often translated as repent. It means to turn back or turn around and thus refers to a change of direction or reversal.

The prophets used the word to call the nation to a radical, conscious rejection of their past sin. The psalmist would use it to describe God’s restoration of a believer.

When used in a theological frame, it means not only to have sorrow for your sin, but a complete turn around – to change one’s mind about the sin and accept God’s provision of salvation. To return wholeheartedly to Him.

Prayer: Father, I want to repent before You. I need to change and allow You to come into my life and take control. Amen.
