“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs. 4 Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted. 5 Blessed are the humble, for they will inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled." Matthew 5:3-6 (CSB)
The first four Beatitudes are Inward Attitudes that we need to develop. The last four are Outward Actions.
The Dictionary describes an attitude as a mental position with
regard to a fact or state, or a feeling or emotion toward a fact or state
We can see that each of the first four Beatitudes deal with an
attitude.
·
Our understanding of our
self-worth before God (poor in spirit)
·
Our heartfelt conviction
before God (mourn)
·
Our total trust of God (humble or meek)
·
Our passionate desire to be
intimate with God (hunger and thirst for intimacy)
Each one of these is a personal, inward position that we as
Kingdom citizens should have.
You see, God always starts with the inside before He works on
the outside.
So, at this half-way point, how are you doing? Are you acquiring these attitudes in your life?
Give yourself a quick check.
- Am I truly spiritually bankrupt before God?
- Am I truly convicted before God about my sin?
- Have I given God total control? Do I trust Him that much?
- Do I crave a deep intimacy with the Father? Do I seek it with all I have?
Now, let us talk about Outward Actions as we begin the study of the last four Beatitudes.
