"When he saw the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and after he sat down, his disciples came to him." Matthew 5:1 (CSB)
Jesus is aware
of those around Him.
We say we know
this, however, do we really believe and live that way? Really? Truly? All the
time? The Greek word used here and is translated saw means - to turn the eyes, the mind, the attention to
anything observe, to discern what to do about something, to inspect, examine, or
to behold.
One thing that
we notice about Jesus in the Gospel accounts – He is constantly aware of the
people around Him. This was not a casual glance that Jesus gave – He was
looking intently, observing those that were following Him.
He does the
same today. He intently observes each
and every one of us. 24/7/365. He never stops observing us. No, He is watching
for what we do wrong. Remember that if we have a personal relationship with
Him, all our sins (past, present, future) have been taken care of at the cross.
So what is He
doing? He is gazing at us, lovingly, seeking how to teach us to walk in His
way. As in this account, He wants us to be blessed. Sometimes it may cause Him
to discipline us (Hebrews 12:6), other times He gives us a high-five for obedience.
So, to repeat,
Jesus is aware of those around Him. The question today consider today – am I
aware of His presence?
