"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God." Matthew 5:8 (CSB)
As we looked yesterday on our need to be like David and become pure in
heart, I asked what hindered you from being like this? Today, consider how we
can develop this attitude.
Look at 1 John 3: 1-3 in your
Bible.
Consider verse 1 – we are called
the children of God. Babies are always compared to their parents. People are
always drawing comparisons – they look like Dad – Mom – Grandma. Children as
they grow older, they will imitate their parents. Remember the old adage – more
is caught than taught. The children will silently say, “I’ll do as you do – not
as you say.” They will copy by principle, not necessarily by mimicking us.
Verse 2 – Because the world cannot see Him – they are confused as to who
we are the things we. They can’t understand why we do the things we do.
So, as David teaches in verse 3 –
We are seeking to be like Him. We try to
imitate our Father.
I like the story about 3
prospectors who found a rich vein of gold in California during the gold rush
days. They realized what a great discovery they had, and decided, "We've got a
really good thing going here as long as no one else finds out about it."
So they each took a vow to keep it secret. Then they headed for town to file
their claims and get the equipment necessary to mine the gold. True to their
vows, they didn’t say a word to anybody. They filed their claim, bought the
equipment, and headed back to their mine. But when they did, a crowd of people
followed them.
The reason was that the
expression on their faces had given them away. Their faces were aglow in
anticipation of the wealth that soon would be theirs. People knew that they
must have found something very special. So a crowd followed them out of town.
So, does my life show that I have
found something special? Do we attract a crowd? Are we reflecting our Father in
our daily life?
