THE GREAT STONE FACE

"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God." Matthew 5:8 (CSB)

So, after considering about being pure in heart, what will make it all worthwhile?

Jesus says that we will see God. Now, that is something special.

Adam Clarke in his commentary states that this is a Hebraism, which signifies, possess God, enjoy his felicity: as seeing a thing, was used among the Hebrews for possessing it.

In other words – we will possess and enjoy God to His fullest. Did you catch that? We will possess the Almighty God to the fullest. We will enjoy Him in all of the extant that can be.

Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote a story called “The Great Stone Face.”  A town had a great natural formation of stone overlooking it.  The legend was that one day the one behind the face would come into the town. There was a young boy who desperately wanted to meet the one who fulfilled the legend.  Stared for years to memorize the face, so he would recognize it.  Visitors to the town started to stare at the man the boy had become. You see, that after all those years of staring at that face, eventually, his face became just like the Great Stone Face.

When we seek to have our hearts and actions match, much like that boy – we will become like Him.

Start staring and mimicking Him today, and you will be able to possess God to the fullest.
