Anointed One

February 9

Daily Bible Reading: Leviticus 7 – 9

Verse of the Day: Leviticus 8:12 – “And he poured of the anointing oil upon Aaron's head, and anointed him, to sanctify him.”

The Old Testament teaches about three anointed offices. Prophet, Priest, and King. The anointing was done to consecrate the person to a specific office. To consecrate means to dedicate or set apart someone or something for special service. Generally, this is for service to God. In this concept, we find the teaching of the Messiah – or Christ. Messiah in Hebrew (or Christ in the Greek), means the Anointed One. This is the one prophesied of being all three – THE Prophet, Priest, and King. The Old Testament followers looked forward to this person, and we see in the New Testament that the position is fulfilled by Jesus. As Moses is instructed to anoint Aaron and his sons for the priesthood, we begin to see more of the picture of the coming Christ.

Prayer: Father, thank You for providing the foreshadowing and fulfillment of the Messiah in your Word. Amen.
