Daily Bible Reading: Leviticus 18 – 19
Verse of the Day: Leviticus 19:18b – “…but thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself: I am Jehovah.”
Today we recognize as St. Valentine’s Day. We spend time and money purchasing cards and candy to give to that someone we consider special. We express our love to them, and often ask them to “Be my Valentine.”
God told the Israelites in Leviticus 19:18 (and Jesus gave this as the Second Greatest Commandment in Mark 12:31) that they were to show their neighbor love. When Jesus was challenged as to who was our neighbor, He made it clear through the parable of the Good Samaritan that everyone that we came in contact with is our neighbor. Therefore, we are to love the clerk at Wal-Mart or waiter/waitress at the restaurant, the person sitting next to us on the bus or plane, the person we pass on the street, the --- well I think you get the picture. Every person we met today – make them your valentine for God.
Prayer: Loving Father, thank You for giving us the great example of loving all. Amen.
