TEXT: Psalm 1:1-6 – “Blessed is the
man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of
sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the
law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a
tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.
The ungodly are
not so, But are like the chaff which the wind drives away. Therefore the
ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the congregation of the
righteous. For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the
ungodly shall perish.”
We can be happy by
associating with the right people. We can be happy by choosing to delight
ourselves in God’s Word, and let God’s Word capture our full affection. (v.
2)...but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law he meditates day
and night.
When
reading the Word of God do you approach it with the affection and devotion that
accepts the teaching that allows the wisdom of God’s word to direct your mind?
OR, do
you read the Scriptures with a pick and choose attitude...
"I'll take that promise... That
challenge doesn't fit my situation... I just can't do that... I'll
accept that idea....!"
We should have such a love for the Word of God
that we embrace it with everything that we have within us. We should cherish
the Word of God for it is the breath of God to our dying souls. It is the Word of God that brings about the
Life of God in the heart of the Believer.
James 1:21 says that we are to“ receive with
meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.”
1 Peter 1:23 "Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of
incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever."
The Word of God brings life to those that will accept it and embrace it.
God calls on us to meditate on His Word with
such affection that it will bring about a true genuine transformation in our
lives!
Emerson said that a man becomes what he thinks
about all day long.
Paul emphasizes the importance of focusing our
thoughts on those things that bring about peace of mind and establish a healthy
thought life. "Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever
is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing,
whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything
worthy of praise, think about these things." (Philippians 4:8-9)
So, to happy in 2024 we need to associate with the right people, delight
in God’s Word, and let it claim our full affection.
