Antidote for Discouragement

June 17

Daily Bible Reading: Nehemiah 4 – 6

Verse of the Day: Nehemiah 4:10 – 11 – “And Judah said, The strength of the bearers of burdens is decayed, and there is much rubbish; so that we are not able to build the wall. And our adversaries said, They shall not know, neither see, till we come into the midst of them, and slay them, and cause the work to cease.”

In today’s reading, we find the four major causes of discouragement. These are: (1) Fatigue, (2) Frustration, (3) Failure, and (4) Fear.

When we are faced with any one of these (and often they come in packs), we begin to suffer from one of Satan’s greatest weapons – discouragement. And, if we stop reading here, we will find ourselves trapped by this monster. But, praise God, in verses 14 and 15 we can find the antidote – (1) Reorganize (verse 13), (2) Remember (verse 14) and (3) Resist (also verse 14).

Prayer: God of all comfort, strengthen my desire to reorganize, remember and resist. Amen.
