Superstition, tradition, or God's Word?

June 23

Daily Bible Reading: Esther 7 – 10

Verse of the Day: Esther 9:26a – “Wherefore they called these days Purim, after the name of Pur.”

Pur, derived from the Assyrian word puru, means “lot.” The method of lot casting (very similar to our rolling the dice) was a common way to make a random selection or discern the will of a god.

Believing that his god was in control of the pur, Haman cast them to determine the right day to destroy the Jews. What he didn’t realize was that God was providentially in control, and instead of choosing their day of destruction; he chose the day of their deliverance.

Are we guilty of using superstition or tradition to determine our fate? Our way of determining His design is by His Word and prayer. Read your Bible and Pray every day.

Prayer: Providential God, all things are in Your control, may we seek only You for decisions and directions. Guide our hearts, hands, and minds, O God. Amen.
