December 3
Daily Bible Reading: 1 John 2
Verse of the Day: 1 John 2:1 – “My little children, these things write I unto you that ye may not sin. And if any man sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:”
The Greek word translated as Advocate in this passage is παρακλητον. The word means one who pleads another's cause with one, an intercessor. It is also used in the Scriptures describing the Holy Spirit.
In this passage, it is used to describe the intercessory work of the Son of God. When we sin (and we will), Jesus represents us before the Father in Heaven’s Court. Satan is the accuser of the brethren (Rev.12:10) and comes before God pointing out our every flaw and sin. Jesus comes next to us and pleads our defense based upon our position received by accepting Him. His shed blood removes the stain of sin and presents us blameless before God the Father.
Prayer: Thank You, Blessed Jesus, my Savior and Advocate. I could not stand before a Holy God except by Your intervention. May I continually praise Your Name.
