Daily Bible Reading: Ruth 1 – 4
Verse of the Day: Ruth 3:12 – “And now it is true that I am a near kinsman; howbeit there is a kinsman nearer than I.”
During the same timeframe as the previous book (Judges), we find a contrast in the story of Ruth. It is a beautiful love story, but more than that it shows the difference between those who choose their own way, and those who seek the kinsman-redeemer (Hebrew ga’al).
The kinsman-redeemer was the relative who acted on behalf of another as a protector of their rights in the family. The Bible teaches that God is the Redeemer of Israel (Isaiah 60:16) and Jesus is the Redeemer of all believers (1 Peter 1:18 – 19).
As you read this book today, stop and consider that we have a kinsman, who at considerable cost has bought us back. We are blessed because while lost and wandering; Jesus paid the price to bring us back.
Prayer: Kinsman-Redeemer thank You for being willing and able to pay the price to buy us back and set us free. Amen.
