April 10
Daily Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 4 – 6
Verse of the Day: 1 Samuel 4:5 – “And when the ark of the covenant of Jehovah came into the camp, all Israel shouted with a great shout, so that the earth rang again.”
The Ark of the Covenant. Sometimes called the Ark of God or the Ark of the Testimony in the Old Testament Scriptures. This was a part of the Tabernacle that Moses constructed under the directions of God. This piece was a very Holy article that the nation of Israel honored very seriously.
The Ark was important because it was the place that God would meet with His people. It was symbolic of the presence of God with His people. Crafted by Bezalel (Exodus 37) and placed in the Holy of Holies it held the Testimony (10 Commandments), the Pentateuch, a jar of Manna, and Aaron’s rod. The nation honored it, but also tended to worship it instead of God Himself.
Prayer: Help me to always seek You instead of Your blessings, O Heavenly Father. Amen.
