To obey is better

Daily Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 15 – 16

Verse of the Day: 1 Samuel 15:22 – “And Samuel said, Hath Jehovah as great delight in burnt-offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of Jehovah? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.” 

Sincerity and obedience are of prime importance when one comes to worship God. In the New Testament, Jesus said that we are to worship God in spirit and in truth (John 4:24). Both the Old and New Testaments are in line with this fact - not what an individual chooses as a means of worship – it is the Who and how as described by God in His Word. We need to realize that our worship is acceptable when we come in the manner He has prescribed.

Today, pause for a while and consider whether your worship is the kind that pleases God – or simply pleases you.

Prayer: Holy God, I come before you humble and seeking Your Presence in my worship. Amen.
