Daily Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 1 – 3
Verse of the Day: 1 Samuel 3:10 – “And Jehovah came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel said, Speak; for thy servant heareth.”
In First Samuel we see two transitions of leadership – from Eli to Samuel, and then from Samuel to Saul. We find the establishment of the national King who would now rule over a Monarchy rather than a Theocracy. Much takes place as transitions can be very disconcerting.
In today's passage we read about the special circumstances surrounding the birth of Samuel. In the verse listed, God had been fairly silent for a while in dealing with His people. Here He speaks to young Samuel. Not knowing His voice, Samuel was confused until Eli told him to tell God he was listening. Are we often not aware when God is speaking to us? Do we need to do as young Samuel and simply say – “Speak for the servant heareth.”
Prayer: Speak Father, and may I have ears to hear You. Mosy importantly, may I have a heart to serve you when You speak. Amen.
