Daily Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 25 – 26
Verse of the Day: 1 Samuel 25:3 – “Now the name of the man was Nabal; and the name of his wife Abigail; and the woman was of good understanding, and of a beautiful countenance: but the man was churlish and evil in his doings; and he was of the house of Caleb.”
“What’s in a name….” Shakespeare wrote that a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. However, we notice that names often either describe a person or set the character of a person. In the above verse we see the name Nabal, which means fool. As we read this account today, we see that not only was he named “fool,” he also lived that way.
Jesus means Savior, and we can see in the Scriptures that not only was this His name, it is an avid description of who He is and what He has done. What kind of name are you leaving behind?
Prayer: Father, Your names describe You in so many ways. May I leave a good name when I die. Amen.
