The lesson from Shimei

April 26

Daily Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 15 – 16

Verse of the Day: 2 Samuel 16:12 – “It may be that Jehovah will look on the wrong done unto me, and that Jehovah will requite me good for his cursing of me this day.”

David continues to reap from his sin concerning Bathsheba and Uriah. David is facing treason from his son Absalom. He and many of his companions have left Jerusalem before they are faced with the confrontation of Absalom and his followers. As they are travelling, a distant relative of Saul – Shimei – throws stones at them and pronounces curses against them.

David’s people want to kill Shimei, but David won’t allow it. David was in hope of the possibility of God looking at his repentant heart and blessing him. We need to trust God to bless us when we repent of the sin in our lives. He always will.

Prayer: Merciful God, I thank you that You are constant – You will always receive, forgive, and bless Your child who truly repents. Today, I claim your blessing that You provide. Amen.
