A man after God's Heart

May 24

Daily Bible Reading: 1 Chronicles 11 – 13

Verse of the Day: 1 Chronicles 11:9 – “And David waxed greater and greater; for Jehovah of hosts was with him.”

When God chose David, he did not look upon the outward appearance. He looked at the underlying character of David. In Acts 13:22, God gives this epithet – “I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My heart, who shall do all My will.”

Was David perfect? Absolutely not. We well remember the account with Bathsheba. Adultery followed by murder, not exactly what we would consider a man after God’s heart by our standards.

It wasn’t his actions that God refers to, it is the heart of the man who when he sinned sought forgiveness and restoration (Psalm 51). He sought to walk with God, and when he failed, he sought God. How do we measure up to this?

Prayer: God of Forgiveness, give me a heart like Yours each and every day. Amen.
