Saul to David

May 23

Daily Bible Reading: 1 Chronicles 8 – 10

Verse of the Day: 1 Chronicles 10:6 – “So Saul died, and his three sons; and all his house died together.”

We have finished with the listing of names. Now, the chronicler begins in chapter 10 through 21 to deal with the reign of David. We see the rise and growth of the Davidic kingdom.

Saul through pride and disobedience had abdicated his right to the throne and leadership of God’s nation. God had already chosen the man that He wanted to lead His people – a young shepherd boy named David.

This chapter closes the reign of Saul, even marking that his lineage to the throne is removed. It is a heavy reminder that God will hold us accountable for our decisions in this life. The most important one is whether we will accept the gift of Grace provided by the shed blood of His Son, Jesus Christ.

Prayer: God of Mercy, I come to You today seeking Your forgiveness and restoration. Restore me to Your service. Amen.
