Bamah

May 15

Daily Bible Reading: 2 Kings 12 – 14

Verse of the Day: 2 Kings 10:31 – “Howbeit the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.”

High places. The Hebrew word bamah is often associated with a sacred, open-air sanctuary built on the top of a ridge. In Israel’s case, it is often associated with their rebellion and apostasy toward God.

Even today unfortunately, we too build high places – not physically but internally. We allow other things to take the place of God in our minds and hearts. We may not realize it, but when we do this we are worshipping things other than the true God.

Take a few moments today to search your heart and make a list of things God reveals that you allow take precedence over Him. Then pray and commit these things to Him.

Prayer: Holy God take first place in my mind and heart. Remove anything that gets in Your way. Amen.
