Daily Bible Reading: 1 Timothy 1
Verse of the Day: 1 Timothy 1:1 – 2 – “Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus according to the commandment of God our Saviour, and Christ Jesus our hope; unto Timothy, my true child in faith: Grace, mercy, peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.”
This is the first of three letters that we commonly call the “Pastoral Letters” of Paul. This one, 2 Timothy, and Titus are written to give instructions on being a shepherd of God’s flock. Timothy was an understudy, a student of the Apostle Paul, and Paul left him at Ephesus to lead the fledgling church in that city.
Paul’s letter can be divided into three sections; chapter 1 is personal in encouragement and advice, chapters 2 and 3 speak to the ministry, and the remaining chapters speak to the one who ministers.
Prayer: Father, as we read this letter over the next few days, let us pray that God will help us to see truths that will encourage us and help us to encourage those who we know minister for Jesus Christ. Amen.
