When tears come

October 16

Daily Bible Reading: 1 Thessalonians 4

Verse of the Day: 1 Thessalonians 4:13 – “But we would not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning them that fall asleep; that ye sorrow not, even as the rest, who have no hope.”

Death brings sorrow. I am a Chaplain with Hospice and a Disaster Relief team. Often in these encounters with people who have friends and loved ones who have died there are tears. Tears are a normal part of the grieving process. God designed it that way.

God never tells us not to grieve or not to cry. But, He does tell us that we do not have to grieve like those in the world who do not have any hope. As believers, we have a hope and an answer to our grief. We know Who holds what is beyond the grave. And in the midst of our tears and grief, knowing the One waiting will help to bring comfort in these times.

Prayer: God of all comfort, we come to You with our tears and grief. We come to You with empty hearts and hands, You take us in Your loving arms and hold us with Your comforting hands of grace and mercy. Amen.
