O be careful little mouth

January 21

Daily Bible Reading: Matthew 15:1 – 20

Verse of the Day: Matthew 15:18 – “But the things which proceed out of the mouth come forth out of the heart; and they defile the man.”

A children’s song goes like this:

“O be careful little mouth what you say, O be careful little mouth what you say. There's a Father up above, And He's looking down in love. So, be careful little mouth what you say.”

Jesus warns us that the words that we speak come from the depths of our heart. If our heart is clean – we will speak words of praise. If our hearts are defiled – our words will display this.

We need to see that the root issue is not our talk, but the depth and depravity of our hearts. Only One is capable of cleansing a heart. Only One is able to make what is defiled presentable again. Jesus. Come to Him today and ask Him to clean Your heart and full being.

Prayer: Jesus, clean me. Take the dirt and evil from within me and clean it into what will praise and honor You. May others see You through me and the words that I speak today. I trust You as able to do this. Amen.
