The rest of the story

January 24

Daily Bible Reading: Matthew 17

Verse of the Day: Matthew 17:3 – “And behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elijah talking with him.”

The Mount of Transfiguration account. Jesus takes His inner circle of disciples up on a high mountain. While they are there, Jesus “peels back” his humanity, and they get a glimpse of His majesty and glory. What an awesome privilege that must have been.

While He was transfigured into His Glory before them, Moses and Elijah appear on the scene and talk with Him. These two are representatives of the Law (Moses) and the Prophets (Elijah).

Jesus instructs them to remain silent about what they had witnessed until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead (Matthew 17:9).

The disciples missed the reference to His rising from the dead. The Law and Prophets looked forward to the Messiah, we look back to the Messiah.

Prayer: Jesus, grant us the vision of Your Glory. May we have eyes to see You. Amen.
