Inheritance

March 24

Daily Bible Reading: Joshua 11 – 13

Verse of the Day: Joshua 11:7 – “Now therefore divide this land for an inheritance unto the nine tribes, and the half-tribe of Manasseh.”

The word used for inheritance means possession or property. When used in reference to the Promised Land it means more than what a man wills to his children. God owns the entire world that He created, and in turn He granted His people a chosen parcel of land. He fixed the boundaries and delivered it into their hands.

Earlier, we read of the laws governing the sale and restoration of property that God designed to keep the property within the tribal boundaries of the nation. Because of these facts, His people are entitled to enjoyment and rest within what God has deemed theirs.

Prayer: Creator God, just as You deemed the inheritance of the Israelites, through Your Son You have set up a glorious inheritance for us. May we rejoice in it. Amen.
