The place of ruins

March 22

Daily Bible Reading: Joshua 7 – 8

Verse of the Day: Joshua 7:2 – “And Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Beth-aven, on the east side of Beth-el, and spake unto them, saying, Go up and spy out the land. And the men went up and spied out Ai.”

Jericho had fallen and the people were moving forward. They came to a place called Ai (“the place of ruins”). Camped with Ai on one side and Bethel (“House of God”) on the other they sought to take control of Ai. God gave them directions on not taking any spoil. One man disobeyed costing the lives of 36 Israelites. His lack of obedience not only would affect him and his family, but the whole nation.

Do we stop to think what ripples the sin we allow in our lives has? There is no such thing as a sin that doesn’t affect others. We need to constantly seek to have a clear conscience with both God and man.

Prayer: Judge of all mankind, search me, reveal to me where I am guilty. May I seek to have a clear conscience before You. Amen.
