Daily Bible Reading: Joshua 21 – 22
Verse of the Day: Joshua 22:5 – “Only take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded you, to love Jehovah your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.”
The Hebrew word debaq means to cleave or cling tightly. It is also translated to “hold fast.” Related words mean to glue, and are used to mean the intimate relations between a husband and wife. In the Scriptures to cleave to God means that we resolve to remain faithful to Him no matter the circumstances around us. Our devotion is to be stronger than any other loyalty that we might have. If we are “glued” to God, we will break in pieces if we try to sever the bond. Today, rest in the bond between you and God.
Prayer: Almighty God, may I live in the strength of the bond of devotion between You and me. Amen.
