Daily Bible Reading: Joshua 14 – 15
Verse of the Day: Joshua 14:15b – “And the land had rest from war.”
Rest. The Hebrew word used here means to be at peace. Freedom from anxiety, from conflict; and to the Israelites it meant freedom from wandering and fighting. In this book of Joshua, it related directly to the conflict with the inhabitants. God promised His people a peaceful place to settle, and this depended upon their complete obedience to God’s commands.
In the New Testament, we find the teaching of rest also applies to the believer. Through Jesus Christ we are promised Heaven where we will find rest from death, pain, sin, and earthly struggles. We look forward to receiving the “Promised Land” of Heaven one day.
Prayer: Jesus, our rest, we thank you for the victory over the flesh, word, and Satan. We long for the day that faith will lead us into the land of rest that You have won. Amen.
