Recall and Remember

March 29

Daily Bible Reading: Joshua 23 – 24

Verse of the Day: Joshua 24:16 – “And the people answered and said, Far be it from us that we should forsake Jehovah, to serve other gods…”

Joshua had just challenged the people to serve God with their whole being. Having reminded them of all that God had done for them, they quickly responded that they would serve Him completely. Moses earlier had challenged them that they needed to remember what God had done for them to cause them to stay devoted. Now, Joshua does exactly that.

Over time, they stop recalling what God had done for them – and in turn they would wander from God (in fact the next book we read, Judges, shows this over and over).

We must be careful to recall all that Christ has done for us. His death and payment for our sin debt is vast and deserves our full service and love.

Prayer: Gracious and wondrous God, help us to recall Your goodness today. Amen.
