Daily Bible Reading: Ephesians 1
Verse of the Day: Ephesians 1:9 – “making known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he purposed in him”
The mystery of His will. The word translated “mystery” in the NT it denotes, not the mysterious (as with the English word), but that which, being outside the range of unassisted natural apprehension, can be made known only by Divine revelation, and is made known in a manner and at a time appointed by God, and to those only who are illumined by His Spirit. In the ordinary sense, a "mystery" implies knowledge withheld; its Scriptural significance is truth revealed.
The Will of God had been hidden or obscure, but through Jesus Christ it has been manifested for all to see. In the preceding verses (7 and 8) Paul spells out what that Will is.
Prayer: Jesus, great Revealer of God and His Will, may I spend time with You today gaining insight and wisdom in Your will and purpose in my life. I seek to fulfill what You have purposed for me in this world. Amen.
