Restore them

September 10

Daily Bible Reading: 2 Corinthians 2

Verse of the Day: 2 Corinthians 2:6 – 8 – “Sufficient to such a one is this punishment which was inflicted by the many; so that contrariwise ye should rather forgive him and comfort him, lest by any means such a one should be swallowed up with his overmuch sorrow. Wherefore I beseech you to confirm your love toward him.”

In the previous letter, Paul had admonished them on dealing with a fellow believer who was living in open sin. The church had taken a very relaxed attitude over it to the point that even unbelievers were talking about it. He pushed them to administer church discipline upon the person responsible.

In this letter, it appears as if the person had repented and sought to be restored to the fellowship of the church. Paul was trying to get them to see that the person no longer needed critics, he needed a place to find healing and refuge.

Prayer: Gracious and Forgiving God, help us to offer forgiveness and healing to those who have repented and come back to You.
