Order in the Church

September 5

Daily Bible Reading: 1 Corinthians 14:21 – 40

Verse of the Day: 1 Corinthians 14:26 – “What is it then, brethren? When ye come together, each one hath a psalm, hath a teaching, hath a revelation, hath a tongue, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.”

Apparently, things had gotten out of hand at the Church of Corinth. Some believe this may have been a cacophony of sounds and events each time they assembled. It was confusing to many, and cumbersome to truly focus on worship of Jesus.

Paul reminds them that they assemble to worship Jesus and edify each other. Paul will remind them that “God is not a God of confusion, but of peace” (vs. 33). Psalm probably refers to their singing; teaching was sharing from the Old Testament or the Apostles lessons. The revelation was probably referring to the message delivered from God.

Prayer: Spirit of the Holy One, guide us as we gather to worship our Lord and Savior Jesus. May we meet in order and focus on Him alone. Give us the hearts to obey and learn of Him.
