Daily Bible Reading: 1 Corinthians 13
Verse of the Day: 1 Corinthians 13:13 – “But now abideth faith, hope, love, these three; and the greatest of these is love.”
There have been more songs and poems written about love than any other subject. It has set on fire and broken more hearts than any other passion. Of all these writings, this chapter in Corinthians carries the power of God in its description of what it is.
Paul’s description here is short, but very powerful. The word he chose in the Greek shows a love that is based upon the deliberate choice of the one loving and not the worthiness of the one being loved. It is different than the simple human emotion. It is a giving, a selfless, and an expect nothing-in-return kind of love. It is a picture of how we are to love, and a description of how that God loves us.
Prayer: All-loving Father, may the Spirit fill my heart with Your love until it overflows to those around me. May I seek to love as You have loved. May I find the truth of what love is and give it freely to those You place in my way. I thank You for Your unlimited love. Amen.
