Transparent Apostle

September 9

Daily Bible Reading: 2 Corinthians 1

Verse of the Day: 2 Corinthians 1:1 – 2 – “ Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus through the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints that are in the whole of Achaia: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”

This second letter to the church at Corinth could be considered the letter of a transparent Apostle. This is the most autobiographical letter that we have persevered from the Apostle Paul. Paul’s apostleship was under attack, so he writes in a very strong forceful style. Still, as we read his words, we see a man who has a tender heart toward God and a commitment to ministry. He is both steel and velvet in what he writes.

This letter covers crucial concerns for the church, instructions on the offering being collected, and a validation of Paul’s ministry.

Prayer: God, there are times that the ones around us may question what You have taught us. If we are truly listening to You, may we be strong and firm in our convictions. Amen.
