God's Masterpiece

September 30

Daily Bible Reading: Ephesians 2

Verse of the Day: Ephesians 2:10 – “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God afore prepared that we should walk in them.”

Ποίημα. The Greek word used here for “workmanship” is used only two times in the New Testament, both times by Paul. The word literally means that which has been made or a work. It is the word from which we get our English word “poem”. It indicates a masterpiece. In days past, a young person would be apprenticed to a Master craftsman. When they had finished their education under them they had to produce a piece of work that displayed their knowledge and skill (think Doctrinal Thesis). This was their “masterpiece.”

Here Paul tells us that we are God’s masterpiece. We are His crowning work through Jesus Christ.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, may I display to the world around me a pleasing picture of Your masterful work done in me through Your grace and finished work of Your Son Jesus. I praise You for what You have finished in me. Amen.
