Daily Bible Reading: Genesis 33 – 35
Verse of the Day: Genesis 35:2 – “Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the foreign gods that are among you, and purify yourselves, and change your garments…”
Jacob and his family are now on their way back to Bethel (house of God). After all that had taken place previously, Jacob is making a concerted effort to establish an exclusive relationship with God. At Bethel he erects an altar called El-Bethel, or the God of the House of God.
In chapter 35, verse 1 – 5 give us a challenge today to waste no time in asking God to help us identify and remove the false gods in our lives. We are guilty of allowing other things to usurp the place of God – His place of priority in our lives.
Today, ponder over what you have allowed to move into place over God, and make a vow to remove it.
Prayer: Gracious God, help me discover and remove that which is in Your place. Amen.
