Half-truths

January 10

Daily Bible Reading: Genesis 25 – 26

Verse of the Day: Genesis 26:7 – “And the men of the place asked him of his wife. And he said, She is my sister. For he feared to say, My wife. Lest, said he, the men of the place should kill me for Rebekah. Because she was fair to look upon.”

Today’s reading reminds us that what we do is often repeated in our family. Abraham twice is recorded of calling his wife his sister (a partial lie) to protect his own life. Here we find his son, Isaac, doing the same thing. Abraham’s failures brought problems, and so does Isaac’s.

In Abraham’s story, Sarah was his half-sister, so technically she was his sister. She was also his wife (a fact he leaves out). We need to remember that half-truths are still lies. And, a lie always will complicate greatly the matter at hand. The truth will always vindicate and give victory. Stay away from half-truths and maintain truth at all times.

Prayer: Father, Jesus said He is the Truth, may we strive to live lives that are models of the truth in this world. Amen.
