Token, Covenant, and Chastening

January 4

Daily Bible Reading: Genesis 9 – 11

Verse of the Day: Genesis 9:13 – “I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.”

The Earth and all that lived on it have been destroyed. The cataclysmic flood is over. God is speaking to Noah and promising that when they see the rainclouds not to fear, He will never again purge the Earth with water.

The promise is unconditional. No matter what man does, no more global flooding. It is God’s covenant. However, that does not mean that there will not be any consequences for man if he rebels against God. We know from Hebrews 12:5 – 11 reminds us that God, like a loving Father will chasten us. He will allow natural results as well as intervening in our lives to mold us into images of Jesus Christ. This year, seek to allow God free hand in shaping you into His perfect plan.

Prayer: Father of Love, help me to see Your chastening Hand as a sign of Your great Love for me. Mold and shape me into Your child. Amen.

“To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ.” (Colossians 1:27-28)  listen to chapter  (Read by Max McLean.
