Daily Bible Reading: Genesis 27 – 28

Verse of the Day: Genesis 28:16 – “And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely Jehovah is in this place. And I knew it not.”

Today’s reading includes the account of “Jacob’s Ladder.” This verse stands out to us because of Jacob being in the presence of God and not knowing it. When he came to the realization, he changed the name of the place from Luz (almond tree) to Bethel (house of God).

What times in your life have you awakened from your spiritual sleep to discover that you were in the presence of God all along and did not realize it? What impact did it have upon you? Jacob was profoundly affected – and in turn this place – Bethel – became a prominent place in Old Testament history.

Today, think back to your Bethel. Has it continued to affect you? If not, why not return to God’s presence in your life.
