Always the same

August 3

Daily Bible Reading: Romans 4

Verse of the Day: Romans 4:3 – “For what saith the scripture? And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned unto him for righteousness.”

Some want to teach that the means of salvation in the Old Testament was different from the New Testament. Even in Paul’s time, this was what some thought. In our verse today, Paul quotes from Genesis 15:6 to refute this erroneous idea,

If we study the surrounding material of this quote, God had made a promise to Abraham, and Abraham simply trusted God to fulfill it. In other words, he believed God.

Abraham didn’t have to obey some law, follow some rule, take part in some ritual, or do any other kind of task to achieve his relationship to God. He simply believed God. Because of his trust, God credited righteousness to his account. Abraham was saved by faith through grace just as we must do.

Prayer: Gracious God, You are the same yesterday, today, and forever. I am so glad that You stay constant and I can trust in You. Amen.
