I miss the mark

August 2

Daily Bible Reading: Romans 3

Verse of the Day: Romans 3:23 – “for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God;”

We are probably very familiar with this verse today. It is part of the Romans Road to salvation many have used for ages to help lead a person to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

The term used here for fall short can be translated to fail, be destitute, to lack, or to be inferior. It is the Middle Voice in the Greek, and that means that the subject is performing an action upon himself (reflexive action). It is in the Indicative Mood, or is simply a statement of fact.

In other words, we miss the mark of attaining the glory of God by our own actions. In even simpler terms as Paul is building his case, we don’t have to do anything to be in this situation. How are you doing today? Have you come to Jesus and received the free gift that He has for you?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I surrender to You. I have missed the mark so often, and I have no one to blame but myself. I submit to You today.
