Justified!

Daily Bible Reading: Romans 5

Verse of the Day: Romans 5:18 – “So then as through one trespass the judgment came unto all men to condemnation; even so through one act of righteousness the free gift came unto all men to justification of life.”

The Greek word for justification (δικαιωσιν) is from the base word that means to acquit or declare righteous. It is a legal term used in the first century that meant a very favorable verdict. 

The picture that Paul is painting here is one of a courtroom with God as the judge. He is sitting in judgment determining who had faithfully kept the Law. Paul’s writing up to this has shown that no one is capable, nor has kept all the Law. We begin to understand that the Law was not given to justify us, but to expose our sin. When we believe in Jesus, God imputes His righteousness in place of our sinfulness. Thus, we are justified by faith through grace.

Prayer, Gracious Judge of all mankind, I am so thankful that You provided for my forgiveness and justification through Your Son Jesus. By myself I stand condemned, in His Blood I stand redeemed. Hallelujah. Amen.
